Biography of Leslie James Lee



Born 29 June 1923 to parents Jim (James William) Lee & Maud Rose Lee, living at 12 Burnell Rise, Letchworth, Herts. Moved with parents in 1936 to a new house at 14 Cowdrey Close, Enfield, Middlesex. Leslie was a keen cyclist (Log of a cycling tour in the Wye Valley, 1943 & Log of a Cycle Tour To North Wales, 1944). His sister Joan joined the Civil Service Cycling Club with him, and met her future husband Roy Spurgeon there.




Godparent to Paul Spurgeon, 28 August 1949. Married Marion Grout at Enfield in the spring on 1953 and lived at Mutton Lane, Potters Bar, Middlesex. Children Stephen Lee, Margaret Lee, Patricia Lee, & Cathy Lee. Worked for the Home Office Prison Service, and retired in the summer of 1987. Best man at Paul's wedding to Irina, 23 July 1996.
His sister Joan writes in her Grandparents Book:

What was your brother's name, date & place of birth? Leslie, 29th June 1923, Letchworth. What do you particularly remember about him from your childhood? I remember that we had many happy times playing together and to being very protective of my young brother. What was his occupation as adult? After the 2nd war finished Leslie took the exam for the Civil Service and chose to enter the Home Office Prison Service. What is your fondest memory of him in adult life? Leslie was a keen Scout and attained his Kings Ring, and also a keen cyclist. I joined with him to cycle with the Civil Service cycle club.
