Biography of Edward Harold Binks
Born 20 April 1905 at Hendon, London to parents Harold (clerk at a silk agents) & Lily Binks, in the 1911 census he's 5 years old, living at 4 Coleridge Walk, Hendon with his sister Hilda (1).
Edgar was an accountant, working for the British Colonial Civil Service, who repeatedly sent him to Ghana for substantial periods of time (a year or more), starting with a trip to Accra on 10 September 1930. Shortly after returning on 7 February 1932, he married Ivy Mays and they lived for a while with his parents at 36 Willowfield Way, Golders Green, London NW11.
Edgar & Ivy sailed together to Accra, Ghana on 1 June 1932, returning on 18 February 1933. Then again together to Ghana on 19 April 1933, returning on 3 April 1934.
He travelled alone to Ghana on 13 June 1934; Ivy followed in September. They probably both returned to the UK in 1935.
Edgar went back to Ghana on 5 February 1936; their daughter Patricia was born in the UK during the summer of 1936, while he was away. Edgar returned home March 1937, and left again June 1937.
From around 1940 they lived at 6 Ashford Drive, Gants Hill, Ilford, Essex. Edgar was posted to Ghana at least 12 times from 1930 and 1950. He died in 1987, age 81, still at 6 Ashford Drive.
