Biography of Thomas Gay

Born around 1800 at Thuxton, Norfolk.

Thomas married Martha Clark on 22 May 1822 at Heigham, Norwich. Martha died 20 September 1840 age 38. In the 1841 census he's living at Lime Kiln Yard, Heigham, Norwich with his sons James (15), Thomas (15) & Isaac (15), and daughters Martha (13), Matilda (11), Mary Ann (Marianne, 8), Hannah (6) & Eliza (2). Soon after his oldest sons moved to London & married: Isaac became a policeman, Thomas a waiter, and James a labourer.

By 1851 he's an ostler, living at 7 Rumps Yard, St. Benedict, Norwich, with daughters Mary Ann (18, charwoman), Hannah (15, assistant), Eliza (12), and youngest son Frederick (5). It's unclear who Frederick's mother was.

In the 1861 census he's 61, an innkeepers messenger, living at Watkins Buildings, Heigham, Norfolk with his daughter Mary Ann (25, laundress), Hannah (23, silk throwster), and grandson Frederick (1, Mary Ann's son).

Thomas died around 1865.
