Log of a Cycle Tour to North Wales, by Roy Spurgeon, with Leslie Lee.   26 August

The tour was by now virtually over for, apart from the run home, we had completed all our itinerary.

We had breakfast in the town as early as possible and got under way at 0905 hours (4537.9). We passed through High Wycombe and Beaconsfield and then struck off north for our caravan at Chenies. Unfortunately, our maps stopped at High Wycombe so we lost ourselves several times afterwards. However, we finally reached the caravan for lunch at 1310 hours (4585.6), a very fast and pleasant run of 47.7 miles in 4 hours 5 minutes, including several stops for tea and conferences en route.

Later, we each completed the run to our respective homes, my final cyclometer reading being 4591.1, making a total cycling distance for the day of 53.2 miles and for the whole tour, a grand total of 745.4 miles

Parts of the following 17 counties of England and Wales were crossed during the tour: Middlesex, Hertfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire, Berkshire, Warwickshire, Worcestershire, Shropshire, Montgomeryshire, Cardiganshire, Merionethshire, Caernarvonshire, Anglesey, Denbighshire, Flintshire, Cheshire, Staffordshire.
