Biography of Stephen Taylor Spurgeon

Baptised 24 June 1799 at Hardingham, Norfolk.

Stephen married Ann Warren on 16 February 1827 at Little Ellingham, and they had 6 children: William, Sarah, Eliza, Anne, John, & Bertha.

In the 1841 census Stephen (40, an agricultural labourer) & Ann (35) are living at Church Green, Little Ellingham with their family: Sarah (12), Eliza (10), Ann (6), John (3), & Bertha (8 months).

Stephen's wife Ann died in November 1848. His son William emigrated to the USA in 1850; his daughter Ann followed in 1857.

In 1851 Stephen (53, farm labourer) is living at Town Green, Little Ellingham with his mother-in-law Ann Warren (76) and children Sarah (23), Eliza (20), John (14, an errand boy) & Bertha (11).

By 1861 Stephen (59) is living at Starks Farm, Little Ellingham with his daughter Sarah (30) & a lodger (Thomas Hunt). Sarah died a year later. In 1871 Stephen (75) is a boarder living with the Branton family (William, Elizabeth & their son James) at Crown Street, Little Ellingham.

Stephen died early in 1880 age 85, and was buried on 20 March 1880 in Little Ellingham.
