Log of a Cycle Tour in the Wye Valley, summer 1943

The party, Batheaston Youth Hostel (3 July 1943)

In the summer of 1943 (26 June - 4 July), Roy Spurgeon, Les Lee, and five friend from the Civil Service Cycling Club made a 300 mile tour of the Wye Valley. Roy kept notes of their route, places visited, amusing incidents en-route, encounters with a variety of military activities, and of each youth hostel. On return he wrote a 15 page log of their journey, including 3 photos and a hand-drawn route map. On the tour were Miss N.Day ("Norma"), Miss P.M.Green ("Pat"), Miss E.B.Vogan ("Jean"), Mr E.A.Boman ("Ernst"), Mr D.R.L.Griffith ("Grif"), Mr L.J.Lee ("Les") & Mr R.W.Spurgeon ("Roy", "I").
