Biography of Albert Spurgeon
Born 29 April 1852 at Little Ellingham, Norfolk, Albert lived with his parents Robert & Harriet at Anchor Corner, Little Ellingham during his childhood. His father was a cordwainer (shoemaker), and his mother a school mistress.
In the 1861 census he's age 8, living with brothers Robert (5) & Arthur (1). By 1871 he's living with daughter Harriet (a seamstress), and brother Robert Walter (14). Wrongly shown as age 10 on the census, he's also working as a cordwainer by 1871.
He married Selina Bowden in June 1876 and they lived at High Road, Little Ellingham. In 1881 with his father (71), and Elizabeth Brant (10, niece). He continued to work as a boot & shoe maker; Selina was a dress maker. They did not have any children.
By the 1891 census he's moved to Prince of Wales Road, Little Ellingham, living with his wife. And in the 1901 and 1911 census they're living at Attleborough Road, Great Ellingham. Albert's working as an agricultural labourer, his wife's a dress maker.
He was a Primitive Methodist preacher in the Great Ellingham, Rockland Circuit, and appointed to the Methodist Synod. In June 1926 Albert & Selina celebrated their golden wedding anniversary: see page 368 of the Methodist Leader, 24 June 1926 (weekly journal of the Primitive Methodist Church). His brother Joseph was also a Methodist preacher.
After the death of his wife in 1930 he moved to Watton Road, Great Ellingham (see 1939 register).
Age 94, Albert died on 13 February 1947; probate was granted 16 April 1947.
