Biography of Harriet Spurgeon (nee Vince)

Harriet was baptised on 25 June 1815 in Little Ellingham, Norfolk, where she lived all her life. Her father, William Vince was a blacksmith. Harriet became an infant school mistress. She married Robert Spurgeon (a cordwainer) on 13 December 1836 at St Peters Church, Little Ellingham.

The 1841 census shows Harriet (25) together with her husband Robert (30), and daughter Matilda (3) living at Goose Common. The 1851 census shows Harriet (36) & Robert (40) with their children Matilda (13), Joseph (8), Harriet (6) & Jacob (4), and a baby (Mary Ann Hall, 1 month), still living at Goose Common.

By 1861 Robert (50) & Harriet (45) are living with Albert (8), Robert (5) & Aurthur (1) at Anchor Corner, Little Ellingham. In the 1871 census they are still at Anchor Corner: Harriet (55) & Robert (59), daughter Harriet (27, a seamstress), Albert (10), & Walter (14).

Harriet died age 60, and was buried in Little Ellingham on 9 February 1876.
