Biography of Ernest Albert Daniel
Born 3 June 1876 in Breage, Cornwall, his father James died soon after on 2 May 1877. In the 1881 census he's living with his grandparents Daniel & Elizabeth Stevens in Crondall, Hampshire, together with their eldest daughter Ellen (18). In the 1891 census he's 14, a student at the Prospect Bible Christian General Education College at Shebbear, Devon.
In 1895 Ernest enlisted with the Argyll & Sutherland regiment (see his WWI service record & medals).
On 6 September 1905 he married Phoebe Alice Tooth in Poona, Bombay, India. All 5 of their children were born in India.
Ernest was Assistant Secretary in the Army Department of the Government of India.
In March 1928 Ernest left India and sailed from Bombay to London on the P&O SS Rawalpindi, returning to 22 Ridge Road, Stroud Green, London N8 with his wife Phoebe, mother-in-law Rose, and children Jack & Winifred.
Ernest's daughter Phoebe married Charles Jaques Nichols in July 1928 at Edmonton, Essex. Soon after, on 14 September 1928, Ernest left London (30 Vallance Road, London N22) & returned alone to Bombay on the SS Rawalpindi.
In the 1939 register he's retired & still living at 30 Vallance Road, Wood Green, Middlesex with his wife Phoebe, son Jack (20, household electrician), & daughter Winifred Powter (22, hairdresser, now married).
He died on 15 November 1945 at Torquay, Devon.
