Biography of Amy Jane Tooth

Born in December 1874 while her parents James & Jane were at Aldershot, Amy travelled with her parents to India as an infant.

On 27 December 1897, Amy married Arthur Shilvock, a soldier in the Corps of Armourers like her father, at Colaba, Bombay, Maharashtra, India. They had 3 daughters, all born in India: Florence, Elsie & Dora.

In 1910, leaving her husband Arthur in India, Amy sailed from Bombay to Liverpool on the SS Trafford Hall with her children Florence, Elsie & Dora. Also on the voyage was her sister Ethel Meade & her daughter Phoebe. They arrived on 23 June 1910.

Amy's first husband Arthur died in India in 1911. The 1911 census records Amy (36) as a widow, living at 22 Ridge Road, Hornsey with her mother Jane, daughters Florence (11), Elsie (8) & Dora (5); sister Ethel Meade (31) & her daughter Phoebe (6); a boarder (clergyman) & a servant.

On 22 June 1917 Amy (42) married Charles Ball (69); he died 10 years later in 1927.

Amy died on 5 December 1957 at 56 Ventnor Drive, Totteridge, London N20 (see probate).
