Biography of Thyne John Carpenter

Born in Marylebone/Paddington, the 1841 census records Thyne (10) living with his parents Benjamin (50) & Maria (50) at Hardington Street, Marylebone, with 3 brothers: Henry (25), John (20), William (15); and 2 sisters: Maria (10) & Sarah (2).

Thyne married Rebecca Winfield on 23 November 1851 at St James, Paddington; at the time they were living at Praed Street, Paddington, and he was a painter.

In the 1861 census Thyne (31) is living at 5 Hall Place, Paddington with his wife Rebecca (28), son Thyne John (6), and daughters Rebecca (4), Mary (3) and Emma (1). He's a painter & glazier, his wife's a dressmaker.

His wife Rebecca died 28 December 1865; a year later Thyne married Elizabeth Barnes on 10 March 1867 at St John's, Paddington; at the time they were living at 8 Hall Place, Paddington, and he was a 'House Decorator'.

In the 1871 census Thyne (41) is living at 7 Hall Place, Paddington with his second wife Elizabeth (25), sons John Thyne (16), Charles (8), & Alfred (3); and daughters Rebecca (15), Mary (13), Emma (11) & Amy (6). He's a painter & decorator, & his son John Thyne is a painter's labourer.

Thyne died of tuberculosis on 26 August 1880 while living with his family at 21 Cirencester Street; his second wife Elizabeth continued to care for his family, as seen in the 1881 census, which records Elizabeth (34, widow, laundress) living at 21 Cirencester Street, Paddington with sons Charles (19, a railway porter), Alfred (13); and daughters Amy (16), Alice (9) & Florence (5).
