Biography of Ann High (Ann Porter)

Born in Reedham on 23 November 1825 & baptised on 23 August 1835, Ann married James High on 9 February 1841 at St James with Pockthorpe, Norwich when 15 years old. Soon after she had her first child, Charlotte Elizabeth (see the 1841 census), but Charlotte died soon after birth. Ann had 13 children altogether; at least 4 died in infancy.

In the 1851 census James (29, an agricultural labourer) & Ann (20) are living in Reedham with their children Mary Ann (8), Elizabeth (5), another Charlotte (3), & Hannah (8 months), and a lodger Samuel Sexton (17).

By 1861 James (37) & Ann (31) are living in Reedham 'on the hills', together with children Hannah (11), Ellen (9), James (7), Harriett (4), & Sarah Ann Maria (3), plus two lodgers: Samuel Sexton (26) & Robert Crisp (13). James, Samuel & Robert were all agricultural labourers, presumably working together.

Ann died in 1868 age 42, and was buried on 1 October 1868 in Reedham. Her husband James remarried in 1870.

Ann's daughter Sarah married Robert Spurgeon in 1878.
