Biography of George Henry Nichols

George was born on 2 May 1875 to parents Frederick & Jane Nichols at 8 Murray Street, Hoxton, London, and baptised on 16 April 1876. His father died in January 1878 when he was nearly 3.

In the 1881 census he's 5, living with his mother Jane (a linen mangler), at 8 Murray Street with his sisters Alice (12) & Lilian (2), brother Frederick (8), & two lodgers: William Sanderson (30, stone mason) & Amy Baker (26, cap maker). By 1891 he's 15, a trimming makers assistant, still living at 8 Murray Street, with his mother Jane (34, a clothes mangler), sisters Alice (22, a jewel case coverer) & Lilian (13), & brother Frederick (18, a telephone operator).

In the 1901 he's a laundryman, living at 79 Green Lane, Stoke Newington, London with his brother Frederick (28, also a laundryman), his wife Rosa (29), & their son Harold (2). Later the same year George married Emma Alice Jacques on 23 June 1901 at St Mark, Shoreditch, London. At the time they were living at 191 Old Street, London. His brother Frederick witnessed their marriage.

By 1911 he's a laundry proprietor, living at 7 The Campsbourne, Hornsey, London with his wife Emma and sons Charles (7), Henry (5), & Frederick (1). In 1926 George's family are at 27 Palace Road, Hornsey, London N8.

George died on 17 September 1959 age 84 while living at 22 Coppetts Road, Muswell Hill, London N10.
